The software i used for recording was Audacity (it is free) and for editing i used Sony Vegas Pro 9 (you have to pay for it). I normally use back tracks for my videos but i couldn't find one for this song so i just used the original song for this vid although i played louder than it. I just got this Epi LP from guitar center for about 0 including insurance. This guitar is beautiful and is one of Epiphone's best instruments in terms of quality and value, the price was 0 without taxes and insurance and the listing price or MSRP was 42 and is well worth it. The body is chambered with alder/mahogany wood making different tonal opportunities available while also taking away some of the weight compared to a solid Les Paul. The body is fitted with gold hardware including gold grover tuners and gold classic alnico humbucker pickups making this a very versatile guitar with a quilted top to finish it off. This guitar is awesome and is fit for rock or any other playing style being one of the tools of the trade for guitar players. For your consideration, the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra.

Been a big fan of Alice In Chains for a super duper long time now and was just listening through their entire discography when I thought I might as well upload a cover of some song off 1992's Dirt. I picked Dam That River 'cause it just plain rules. The guitar is a 2001 Gibson Les Paul Studio, ebony with gold hardware. Thought I'd use the LP since that's what the Alice In Chain songs were recorded with. This song is tuned to drop Db (DbAbDbGbBbEb). It's running into my Axe-FX Ultra and uses a preset with the Diezel VH4 amp model (DAS METALL). I thought it sounded closest to the original recording.

Key Features

New Asymmetrical Neck Profile

The 2008 Les Paul Standard features an asymmetrical neck profile design that makes it one of the most comfortable and playable necks ever offered on any guitar. The new ergonomically correct profile is tapered, and designed to be thicker on the bass side, and thinner on the treble side, closely outlining the natural form of the hand as it grips the neck.

The 2008 Standard necks are machined in Gibson's rough mill using wood shapers to make the initial cuts. Once the rosewood fingerboard gets glued on, the rest--including the final sanding--is done by hand. That means there are no two necks with the exact same dimensions. So while it still has the basic characteristics of its respective profile, each neck will be slightly different, with a distinct but traditional feel.

Chambered Mahogany Body

Every 2008 Les Paul Standard benefits from Gibson's proven chambering technique, which leaves each guitar with perfect tone, balance, and weight. Prior to gluing the maple cap on top of the mahogany body, the expert craftsmen at Gibson USA carve out carefully mapped-out chambers in the body using a Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) router. The positioning of the routes was established after careful examination of the resonant characteristics of the Les Paul. Gibson approached this process with the awareness that every change to the formula would have repercussions on the instrument's sound.

TonePros Locking Tune-o-matic Bridge and Locking Stopbar Tailpiece

The Tune-o-matic bridge was the brainchild of legendary Gibson president Ted McCarty in 1954, setting the standard for simplicity and functionality that has never been bettered. The 2008 Les Paul Standard features TonePros locking Nashville Tune-o-matic in a chrome finish, which has saddle adjustment screws on the pickup side, and pre-notched saddles for quick installation. The chrome locking stopbar tailpiece is also from TonePros. These parts come with locking studs designed to secure both components firmly to the body so that there is no lean, yielding a great union between the strings and body which results in excellent tone and sustain.

Pickups: Gibson Burstbucker Pros

The Burstbucker Pro features an Alnico V magnet (instead of the Alnico II), which offers slightly higher output and allows preamps to be driven a little harder to achieve a more natural break-up. Like all Burstbuckers, the Burstbucker Pro has asymmetrical coils--true to the original PAFs--which supply a more open sound. The Burstbucker Pro Neck is wound slightly less than the original PAFs, while the Burstbucker Pro Bridge is slightly overwound for increased output. The Burstbucker Pro pickups are also wax potted to allow loud volume pressures with minimal feedback.

Revolutionary Plek Set Up

The 2008 Les Paul Standard utilizes the revolutionary German-made, computer controlled Plek machine in setting up the guitar. It carefully measures each fret, along with the fingerboard height under each string, and then automatically dresses each fret, virtually eliminating string buzz and greatly improving the overall playability of the guitar. Every fret is accurately aligned, and the guitar is properly intonated, leaving the instrument "Plek'd" and amazingly playable.

Locking Neutrik Jack

Like many Neutrik products, the jack in the 2008 Les Paul Standard is manufactured from strong, high-grade thermoplastics and housed in a rugged diecast nickel shell. A retention spring inside the jack ensures optimum grip on any guitar cable, thus avoiding the chance of lost connection.

Locking Grover Tuners

The 2008 Les Paul Standard is outfitted with locking tuners from Grover, which deliver ease of use through a standard tuner and positive locking mechanism that securely locks each string in place. Simply insert each string through the string hole, turn the dial on the bottom of the tuner to lock the string, and begin tuning. The neck on the Les Paul Traditional is carved to a comfortably rounded '50s "D" profile. Rosewood Fretboard

The Les Paul Traditional carries a Grade-A rosewood fingerboard, the traditional fingerboard of the original Les Paul Standard. Rosewood is both hardwearing and sonically superlative, adding sweetness and depth to the guitar's overall sound. To enhance the guitar's classic look and feel, this fingerboard is trimmed in antique cream binding.

The fingerboard carries 22 medium-jumbo frets made from traditional nickel-silver wire, along with acrylic trapezoid position-marker inlays, echoing the traditional look of the original Les Paul Standards.

Angled Headstock

Just like the original Les Pauls of '50s, and many classic Gibson models, the Les Paul Traditional headstock is carefully angled at Gibson's traditional 17 degrees. This subtle yet crucial element of the guitar's design increases pressure on the strings and helps them stay in the nut slots. An increase in string pressure also means there is no loss of string vibration between the nut and the tuners, which equals better sustain.

Classic Series Pickups

The Les Paul Traditional Plust Top is equipped with a pair of pickups from Gibson's popular 57 Classic series. Its 57 Classic (neck) and 57 Classic Plus (bridge) accurately recreate the tone and performance of original PAF humbuckers with a few tonal enhancements that players appreciate. The standard '57 Classic in the neck position is wound to a DC resistance toward the lower range of the original PAF pickups, for a warm, round, rich tone with plenty of definition and clarity. The 57 Classic Plus in the bridge position is wound toward the hotter end of the PAF spectrum to reflect vintage pickups whose coils were wound "until they were full," for an open, clear, punchy vintage voice with plenty of snarl and aggression when you crank up your amp. The coils are wax potted to combat microphony and feedback squeal at high volumes so, while vintage voiced, they are suited to high-gain playing, too. The number of windings in the two coils in each pickup are also equally matched, an enhancement that provides a creamy, balanced performance that many players enjoy.

The Les Paul Traditional boasts an independent volume and tone control for each pickup, along with a three-way toggle.

Tone Pros Tuners

The headstock of the Les Paul Traditional is equipped with Kluson-style Tone Pros tuners with green tulip buttons. These keys have a vintage look that complements the model, while offering an extremely efficient 16:1 turns ratio for precise tuning performance.

Nashville Tune-o-matic Bridge

The Les Paul Traditional carries a "Nashville" Tune-o-matic bridge that is made from zamak and plated in chrome. This bridge provides a firm seating for the strings, while also allowing the player to adjust and fine-tune the intonation and string height in a matter of minutes. It also yields excellent coupling between strings and body, maximizing resonance, tone and sustain.

Every Tune-o-matic bridge is combined with a separate "stopbar" tailpiece, which is essentially a modified version of the earlier wraparound bridge that's designed to further enhance the connection between the strings and the body. The craftsmanship is first class. Then neck is on the thin side (which is what I was looking for). Things like trim on the neck and I can live without for the price.
